Our first experience of

martinandlaurie's picture

Our first experience of freedom camping, we chose to stay here when we arrived in Wanaka during an event weekend and the campgrounds were all booked.
Camped by the side of a beautiful river with crystal clear water under shade trees, yet only 5 minutes drive to Wanaka.

Toilets and water on site - no other facilities, but then this is freedom camping so not expected. Albert Town, just across the bridge, has supplies at a dairy and a pub.

Loved this location and, at $7 per person, a bargain given the scenery.

Very nice spot, shady trees,

Very nice spot, shady trees, fishing or swimming in the river, plenty of walks to go on, shops on the other side of the bridge, hotel as well. good toilets, water supply, acres of room. But avoid the Xmas and Easter holiday peaks, when it attracts a rougher element. The DoC ranger call 7am every morning to see if you have paid the fees.
