We find this camp really suits us, with "hard stand" all weather gravel sites, a great high pressure water supply and a great easy access dump site. I cannot comment on the bathroom and kitchen facilities as we are fully self contained and do not use them. The price at $25 per night for two of us is really quite low for the location which is only a quick 10 minutes down the Northern motorway to Wellington City. Friendly and helpful staff also add to positive experience. Our recent stay over Christmas is our second visit to this camp and we will look forward to visiting again when we are next in the region.
Lovely views, very good price for camping and cabins. Kitchen compact and can get very crowded. Main campers shower/toilet blocks in portacabins kept fairly clean, as are the toilets/showers behind the cabins at the top of the site. However, the lodge showers/toilets were the dirtiest we have seen anywhere. They were unacceptably dirty and unhygienic so we would use the others on site out of necessity. The cabins were basic but good for the price, especially the ones that have recently been refurbished.
Well done Camp Elsdon for listening and making required improvements. New gravel has been put down which helps with the water drainage and dust, and a drainage pipe has been put into the bank. Also the showers are now working on gas - so they don't run out after 2 people. I've boosted my rating to 3 stars - would be more if there was a single person discount, but the camp is great value for 2 people. I'll add some new photos shortly.
