The facilities are old and

bentleycamper's picture

The facilities are old and rundown. The bathrooms are dirty and smelly. Very poor for the high price they charge. We were astonished at how rude and unfriendly the owners were. The man has a really bullying manner and got very cross when we didn't park on our site exactly as he'd ordered us to. We don't need that sort of unpleasantness while trying to enjoy a holiday. The nice view through the trees is the only good feature of this camp. We couldn't recommend it to anyone and won't be staying there again.

I was born n bred in Opononi

lisa's picture

I was born n bred in Opononi and i love staying at the camp ground when im home, everything at your doorstep ... Jenny and Harry are awesome hosts
The place has everything you need is clean and tidy and if your lucky Harry comes round with some fresh fish straight off the boat lol ... pretty reasonable price too I'll always go back and stay there with my family.. Same time every year.

sugar's picture

After reading reviews I was nervous to go.. but thought nothing alcohol can't mask. I have two kids.. and planned a ladies weekend away with my friends n go ti a gig at the hotel. On arrival the man wasn't very friendly.. rather rude actually.. said I looked like trouble and if funny business happened I would b kicked out. He moaned a lot.. saying he was sick of these gigs.. he needs to realise we were giving him business becos if the local gig.. He wacked my girlfriends hand away as he was telling us where he'd llike ys to park.. after our introduction to him.. we put up tent.. had a seat.. had predrinks , before gig, had an amazing view and an awsum time.. he left us be after that.. kitchen facilities were good.. we were camping.. not expecting 5 star.. and the bathroom was all good.. hot showers.. I wasn't complaining.. opononi was awsum and I'm going back for six sixty gig in Jan..

How did I miss this place?

spottydog's picture

How did I miss this place? .. First time here but have been past several times. Great views of the harbour from most sites and a great area to explore. The Opononi pub is in walking distance and the fishing is great.

The proprietors have been here a long time and know the area and the people. A relaxing spot and nothing wrong with the facilities at all..

Hard to understand some of

shalodge's picture

Hard to understand some of the previous negative comments. It is almost as if they were talking about a different motorcamp.

Sure the facilities are not gleaming glass and aluminium but is is a camping ground not a hotel and the location is amazing. As for the proprietors, Harry and Jenny are great people who would do anything for you, just try talking to them. I will be back and I suggest you put this place on your itinerary.

ellecee's picture

Dearest Jenny and Harry, Wow what a wonderful experience we had. The whole 22 Otamatea-Rodney young men, had such a fabulous time and you guys were great, accommodating, nothing was a problem and really looked after us.

Thank you guys so much again and we will be back.

After being told by the male

Unhappy's picture

After being told by the male owner to "Follow me quietly" we did so in our camper to our spot on the hill where he told us EXACTLY how he wanted us to park. After telling him that we had an awning on the back of the van and didn`t want it facing into the wind he proceeded to actually grab my hand on the steering wheel and physically steer the van himself. After getting agitated with this and telling him to let go he went on about it being up to him how we parked and not caring at all what we wanted. When I told him we weren`t going to stay there and wanted our money back he grabbed me by the shirt through the van window until I opened the door on him to make him let go. When we went to the office to get a refund he refused to put the money back on the card, informing us there was a "$1 fee for using it" and wrote us a cheque for $1 less than we payed before informing me "it would probably bounce anyway"! We went next door to the chip shop to cash it and they told us that we weren`t the first people to have trouble at the site. After reading all the bad reviews when we got to the next camp site we really wished we had done so previously! I strongly urge you not to put money into their pockets.
