Hi folks to all those

busy2's picture

Hi folks to all those comments on this site there must be some thing wrong.
We took a punt and stayed at this camp Saturday just gone just to see if the past comments were what they said.
Well we arrived where meet in the office by a very friendly camp manager did the usual thing filled out the paper work told where to park where every thing was paid for our site which under the current pricing on motor camps was fair and we were happy so drove around to our allocated site parked up had a cuppa and a look around . 2 shower / toilet blocks one older and the newer block was locked because of the season. Out of 10, 10 points to presentation of the camp and its facilities 10 points on location.
The older toilet shower block has been up graded still a little more to be done,65 tents sites 75 powered sites and cabins to boot so you see this is not a small camp and well done to the owners or lease holders.
2 dumps stations what more can I say would we go back or tell others yes we would and have done so.
Well done.
Pity I left my camera at home, next time I will have it so others may see what you people have to offer.

I would rate this camp 4

jimandsue's picture

I would rate this camp 4 stars for locality, setting and facilities, with a -2 stars for management. We were told to park up right next to the newer toilet/shower block, very convenient for 1 day, the next morning they were cleaned and locked up. That night there were more people camped at that side of the camp than the first. The next morning there was one toilet blocked in each of the male/female toilets. We only bothered with the 2 nights. The other amenity blocks are not well sign posted for new arrivals, there were no rubbish bins around the camp. The only receptacle for recycling (when we found the bins) was a small household recycling bin - overflowing.I have seen similar comments on other websites, I agree with them all. Would we stay there again ? - maybe, but only because there is no other campsite within 20kms of Palmerston North. More likely we would give the city a miss. Bad luck Palmy - a lot of campers agreed with us, even a camp worker said it was very badly managed and that this was the normal thing there.

We have been staying at this

robin.col's picture

We have been staying at this camp for about 40 years. It is a Council camp, and run by managers, we understand. Over the last 10 years, have only stayed there, because our daughter lives there, and we come down to visit her. The camp is poorly run, last time we were there, painters were painting the outside of the main buildings, so managers had (reluctantly) opened extra facilities, which we used, as not pleasant to be in a building with men painting all around. They came over and locked them at 9.30 am on morning we left - and locked me in!!! Why lock up without cleaning, or checking?? They were grubby, anyway, with no hot water. Also general maintenance and cleanliness is lacking - sad, as it a good site, near the Esplanade, river, and gardens. The tariff has gone up, but the service has, sadly, gone down a lot. It is the only camp in PN, and will not stay there again, unless it is absolutely necessary, which is very sad, for a city camp. Heard lots of adverse comments from other campers at the time.
