Very unfriendly staff, cold

not a happy camper's picture

Very unfriendly staff, cold showers and no wifi.
Paid overly much for an un powered site (40 $) then the showers turned cold after 10 min (shampoo in and freezing October night). When I asvised tge owner that a warning that hot water is very limited would be nice for future customers I was informed very rudely that it is common sense to assume that. Never ever coming back!

Small camp. IOverall ratingn

Small camp. IOverall ratingn a beautiful Location( this is its attractive point) Sites good with their own very small Ensuite. However the House lodge and cabin very dated, would rate 2 star but carry a four star price tag.Camp manager tends to be a little sarcastic and prone to making comments about the other campers. Overall not too bad but the sites are somewhat pricey at $38 per night.

Recently had the pleasure of

martinandlaurie's picture

Recently had the pleasure of staying here and loved it. Minutes from the shops, restaurants, hot tubs and gliding at Omarama, the small camp is located across the road from the start of Lake Benmore.
Spacious, shady, grassy sites that have a clean, private bathroom attached to each site with private shower, toilet and sink. No more walking to the communal ablutions block!
The kitchen is a little dated but has what you need.
Hosts were very accommodating, friendly and unobtrusive.
Because of the relatively small number of sites, I would recommend booking ahead.
And, if you do make it, make sure to try the hot tubs in Omarema in the evening - a very special experience.

Great spot for fishermen and

jhw's picture

Great spot for fishermen and boaties, just across the road to the lake, boat launching ramps nearby too.
Each site has it own small ensuite and there is a small kitchen block for campers.
Located alongside the highway, so road noise is a factor. Two houses available as well.
Small kids playground, plenty of rabbits to chase!
