Have been going here for

Westie born and raised's picture

Have been going here for about 20+ years, Grew up in auckland and come here every summer. This is a chilled out relaxed spot that has to be one of my favorite places in the world to go. Facilities are clean, owners are great, and we always meet great new people there every year :) If you are looking for a good old kiwi camping getaway then go here!!

I don't know what drugs the

I don't know what drugs the two above were on but I would highly recommend this motor camp. This is a camping ground. If you want hotel service then go to a hotel. I have attended many corporate functions over the years and have found a mountain of undesirable items on the toilet floors.

I found the management of this camp very welcoming. The utilies clean and tidy and the views anywhere on site excellent.

There is so much to do and 90% of it involves being outside and chilling with nature.

Don't be put off by the comments above. This place is awesome.

Note: this review is based on

Tomas Kohout's picture

Note: this review is based on my experience made in December 2006 when I have travlled NZ on bicycle... Info might be outdated (I hope!)

Worst managed NZ campsite I ever visited.

Locaiton itself is fine. But motor camp gave me a feeling like having a camp in campervan carpark. Too much open nooks for campervans and cars, no fencing of nooks, only small place for tents.

What was terrible was condition of communal utilities. Kitchen was dark and only with basic equipment, and rather unfriendly place by its setting. Ok, not a big problem.

Toilets werte made of antique eqipment (shelves, tubes), isntgallation does not seem to be very professional. But what was real problem - this utility was really dirty - layer of dust and filth almost everywhere... and the cherry on the top of cake was literally shit laying in front of one WC box.

Due to the poor electrical installation of a hot water timer, the shower gave me couple of electric shocks. Even (dirty) rubber mate did not help.

With big relief, I moved to Top 10 Shelly Beach on next day. What a change!

In the past, we have stayed

robin.col's picture

In the past, we have stayed regularly at this camp. Were staying there when previous owners heard they had sold - how sad. Have stayed twice with the new owners, who show no interest in guests, just take the money. The facilities were filthy, the kitchen especially. We don't use the kitchen, as have a motorhome, but look in it. It is up to the owners to make sure facilities are clean, but don't think these owners know that. As I work at a local Info Centre as a volunteer, hear lots from overseas tourists about our camps. These sort of camps give NZ a bad name - charge well, but don't provide good service. We need something like the Hotel Inspector giving some of these owners a rev-up.
