The southern bit of the northern part. The lighthouse is everyone’s destination, but the drive out along the coastal road is the true pleasure. Few roads on the North Island hug the coastline this much—NICE! Your eyes will keep wandering past the jaggedy “Kupe’s Sail” rocks over to the South Island mountains…you’ll pull off to watch the waves…you’ll wander to the rocks to try to spot some seals…you‘ll wonder at Ngawi’s colorful bulldozers. The lighthouse beckons ahead and it’ll take 250 steps to satisfy your curiosity… you’ve gotta do it!

Great views, but the road is

Great views, but the road is closed the last km. Also a great place to see seals up close.
