Want a nice sunny riverside hang-out spot that is guaranteed to be action-packed? If so, head to the “beach” just upstream of the Shotover Jet’s dock/office where you’ll find some sandy spots to hang out as the Jetboating action blazes just meters away. A Shotover Jet roars by every few minutes and a bit upstream rafts whoosh through the whitewater Oxenbridge river tunnel. Whoa, no lack of adrenaline on this stretch of river! Upstream at this “Oxenbridge beach” is a short track accessing the tunnel the whitewater rafts shoot through (and capsize!).
Here’s an idea for some fun: make a sign that says “Splash Me”, stand at the water’s edge, and see if the Jet-boat pilots will oblige. Of course it’ll help if you’re wearing a bikini to entice the male-driven boats!! Take my word, when the Jet whooshes its tale and tosses up a 5m spray of water over you…I guarantee you’ll cackle with joy!
Shotover Jet. This IS the most exciting boat ride ever! The World-famous Shotover Jet is 25 minutes of white-knuckle thrills. Of all the Kiwi manufactured “adventures”, the Shotover Jet is THE BEST. Don’t miss it. In terms of unique thrills, the other NZ Jet rides all pale in comparison. The Shotover Jet blasts through a narrow rock-bound gorge, hops rapids, and spins enough 360s to give you a face full of Shotover. Even if you’re not too keen on Kiwi $$-adventures, the Shotover is worth it!
