Climb to the summit of this 468 metre peak and on a clear day you can see from the Kaikoura Range in the south to Mt Taranaki in the north-west.

The stair climb from Camp

beatsmilking's picture

The stair climb from Camp Elsdon through the bush is going to make you sweat - it gets progressively steeper, and took me around 25 mins to get to the top (of the steps). You will need to be moderately fit for this route, the easier - but longer route would be to walk from the Raiha street entrance a little further up the road from the camp (not steps here so good for bikes). Once reaching the top of the steps you have done most of the climbing for this walk - now you can enjoy 360 degrees views to Wellington, over Porirua, Mana Island and the South Island on a clear day. Its exposed at the top - and probably very windy! From camp to Summit and back again took me about 2hrs with stops for photos.
